Gallery A3 is excited to announce an Open Call for Artists for its 8th Annual Juried Show, to be held August 3- September 2, 2023, with an opening reception on Thursday, August 3, 2023 from 5-8 pm.
Amanda Herman is the Education Curator of Visual Arts at the University Museum of Contemporary Art (UMCA) at UMass Amherst where she designs educational programs with faculty across disciplines, trains students to be educators in the museum, advises graduate students in an annual fellowship exhibition and plans the museum’s public events. She co-teaches the UMCA student-led acquisition program, Collecting 101 and the accompanying public event Vote for Art.
She holds an MFA in Social Practice from California College of the Arts in San Francisco and has been a visiting lecturer of photography and Social Practice at Smith, Hampshire, Amherst, and Mt Holyoke Colleges. She is Vice-President of the Board of Trustees at Historic Northampton and visual arts curator for The Art Salon and Florence Night Out. She is also an multimedia artist and filmmaker. Gallery A3 is a cooperative, contemporary fine arts gallery in downtown Amherst, Massachusetts. Current members include painters, sculptors, photographers, print makers, and mixed media artists. During its 21-year history, the gallery has been home to over 60 artists, mounting monthly exhibits and offering cultural events and community collaborations. The Gallery’s opening receptions take place on the first Thursday of every month. Art Forums, free and open to the public, are scheduled on the third Thursday. This Art in Community outreach program is supported in part by grants from the Amherst, Pelham and Springfield Cultural Councils, all local agencies, which are supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.

Submission Guidelines
Open to all artists 18 and older in Massachusetts, and the surrounding region, (Connecticut, New Hampshire, Vermont, New York). Artists of all backgrounds and working in all media (excluding video and media works) are encouraged to apply.
Work must not exceed 26 inches in width, and 72' in height, including framing. Sculpture must not exceed 18 lbs and 26 inches in any dimension. All artwork must be ready to install. Sculptures requiring pedestals must be delivered with their pedestals, which must be stable and clean. Artwork requiring assembly or special handling must include precise directions and photo(s) of the assembled work.

Artists or their surrogate must be responsible for delivering artwork to Gallery A3, 28 Amity Street, Amherst, MA. Accepted work may be dropped-off to Gallery A3, 28 Amity Street, Amherst, MA 01002 on Sunday, July 30, 2023, from 3-7 pm and Monday, July 31, 2023, from 10 am-Noon. ( gallery tel: 413 256-4250).
All artwork must remain on display for the duration of the exhibit with no exceptions.
Giclees of canvas art, copies of artworks, or reproductions will not be accepted.
SALES - Accepted Artists must place their name, medium, year made, and sales price on the back of their piece. Sales will be processed by Gallery A3, with checks payable to Gallery A3 + sales tax. Please note: the gallery retains a 25% commission from the sale so please price your work accordingly.
All unsold work must be picked up in person on Saturday, September 2nd, 2023, between 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm or Sunday, September 3, 10:00 am - 3:00 pm The gallery has very limited storage so please make arrangements for your work to be picked up.
AGREEMENT TO PARTICIPATE
Submitting your entry indicates that you agree with the conditions of entry and exhibit as outlined in this prospectus, that you are reserving spots in our juried show, that you will send the entry fee, and that you agree to make your work available and will deliver it to the gallery by the date specified should it be selected for exhibit, and collected during the dates and times stated.
DO NOT submit an entry form if you cannot follow through. Do not double-book your work, commit it to other conflicting exhibitions, or sell it without securing its availability for our exhibit, after submitting to this project.
